چکیده
Abstract The Initial Upper Paleolithic (IUP) is a key chrono-cultural concept in our understanding of the cultural and population dynamics at transition from Middle to period. This paper presents technological chronological analyses lithic assemblages rockshelter site Tor Fawaz Jebel Qalkha area, southern Jordan, provide accurate dating detailed recognition IUP variability Levant. We present integrated micromorphological, phytolith, dung spherulite evaluate formation postdepositional processes archaeological remains through high-resolution micro-contextual studies. As result, show general similarity those Boker Tachtit Level 4, Sadaf A–B, Wadi Aghar C–D1 that represent late phase Based on site-formation processes, we suggest ca. 45–36 ka as age occupations Fawaz. More specifically, Aghar, nearby same may slightly different phases trend paralleling sequence possibly post-date 4. also discuss issue partial overlap between Ahmarian argue for geographically trends changes Ahmarian.

Radiocarbon chronology of Manot Cave, Israel and Upper Paleolithic dispersals
The timing of archeological industries in the Levant is central for understanding the spread of modern humans with Upper Paleolithic traditions. We report a high-resolution radiocarbon chronology for Early Upper Paleolithic industries (Early Ahmarian and Levantine Aurignacian) from the newly excavated site of Manot Cave, Israel. The dates confirm that the Early Ahmarian industry was present by ...
متن کاملThe formation of lithic assemblages
Research into the processes that form the archaeological record is an important component of archaeological practice because formation processes are a key link between the materials that archaeologists study and prehistoric societies that they seek to understand. Computational modeling is a comparatively new technology with potential to provide new insights into the dynamics of human societies,...

Introduction The final phase of Late Paleolithic of Zagros Mountains has been introduced as the Zarzian of the Epipaleolithic (EP), which was defined based on the assemblage from type site of Zarzi Cave in Iraqi Kurdistan. This techno-complex has been much less investigated and introduced in comparison to the earlier groups of Upper Paleolithic. The Zarzian is a microlithic industry with smal...
متن کاملThe Upper Paleolithic Revolution
■ Abstract The transition from the Middle Paleolithic to the Upper Paleolithic is considered one of the major revolutions in the prehistory of humankind. Explanations of the observable archaeological phenomena in Eurasia, or the lack of such evidence in other regions, include biological arguments (the role of Cro-Magnons and the demise of the Neanderthals), as well as cultural-technological, an...
متن کاملAdaptation to Resources and Environments during the Last Glacial Maximum by Hunter-Gatherer Societies in Atlantic Europe
Solutrean culture has been interpreted as a response to the Last Glacial Maximum in western Europe. However, to establish a link depends of our knowledge of the impact of global climatic changes at a local level and of the differential preservation and significance of the record. The identification of lithic sources, technology, function, and place of discard, is an effective way to mitigate so...
